In this video: For more than two decades, the Australian Chinese Music Ensemble has captivated audiences with its precise musicianship. Directed by sheng (Chinese mouth organ) virtuoso Wang Zheng-Ting, the Ensemble’s mastery of both traditional and contemporary Chinese music has led to performances across the country. Since its establishment in 1989, the Australian Chinese Music Ensemble has collaborated with renowned Australian composers and musicians such as George Dreyfus, Ros Bandt and Jeffrey Crellin.

This concert sees the Ensemble perform George Dreyfus’s transporting New Golden Mountain, a new work by Ros Bandt specially commissioned for Melbourne Recital Centre’s 10th Anniversary, and a number of cross-culture favourites. Joining the ensemble on stage is acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Adam Simmons and his trio, Origami.

This concert was recorded live in the Primrose Potter Salon at Melbourne Recital Centre on Tuesday 3 December 2019.

The commissioning and world premiere performances of ‘Celebration’ by Ros Bandt, and ‘Soliloquy’ by Adam Simmons and Wang Zheng-Ting were generously supported by the Playking Foundation as part of Melbourne Recital Centre’s 10th anniversary commissions project.
