In this video: Ayșe Göknur Shanal and Ashley Hribar perform their 2018 concert Gallipoli Songs in the Salon as part of Melbourne Recital Centre’s Spotlight Series.
About the artists: The musical dialogue between Ayșe Göknur Shanal and Ashley Hribar began in 2016, with their shared interest in contemporary and Middle Eastern music. Their debut performance at the 2017 Mersin International Music Festival in Turkey drew immediate attention and acclaim from the national newspapers. Ayșe, one of Australia’s most versatile classical singers, has won many prestigious international awards and scholarships. Her collaboration with Australian and international composers has resulted in the premiere performances of major vocal works. Australian born Ashley Hribar is an award-winning pianist and composer and a strong advocate for contemporary music. His performances often straddle between composer and improviser, using traditional repertoire in the context for free improvisations. 2018 will be an exciting year for this fresh duo, who will demonstrate their unique chemistry in performances in Australia and overseas.
